Week 18

We've been working on the Trail for some time now and in the past few months we have had some exceptional moments.  As we have worked we have seen the trail come alive both with wildlife and fellow hikers.  We've met AC100 milers out for the training runs passing through Newcomb Pass from Chileo.  We've gotten to know cabin owners up from the canyon for a day on Wilson.  We've run into several groups hiking over the Pass from Devore, determinedly slogging up the hill at speeds that were frankly impressive, too tired to stop as they might lose the momentum required to finish the climb.  We've also spent some quiet days without seeing a human soul and so had the view all to ourselves but for the delicate doe snacking on the moss while keeping a watchful eye on us.  We've also met some folks on the radio when we've reached out and invited them to come out and visit us at some point in the future.  We've worked in the rain and the snow but we've been lucky that the north slope is mostly shaded from too much sun.  What started as something to do... something to keep us busy... a new project to keep us interested has become rewarding in so many ways that we hadn't considered.  We look forward to the spring and summer which will bring more people our way and we will perhaps venture down to do some work on the adjoining trails where we have heard our help is needed.  Carry On!
