My darling Mango-Joe is up all night which means I'm up all night too. Its 4:15am *&*(^%$* ! I have to pick up Sharon in less than two hours! I throw in the towel on sleeping. I can sleep later today when I get home. I reach Sharon's house a little early even and I tell her I'm good to go... but not Wilson as we planned. Sharon seems ok with this adjustment and off we go. I'm kind of foggy and groggy but I refuse to be grumpy.
The river is as dry as I have ever seen it. The waterfall is barely a drizzle. My dripping bathroom faucet loses more water. I know that this has a negative effect on the surrounding natural land and the wildlife but I have to admit that I like it. Secretly I enjoy it. Why? Because it reduces the crowds!
We have a really beautiful and quiet hike and I make it home for a catnap. All is right with the world at least for today!

Waving in the Heat
Its hot. It's a holiday. I'm late. It's crowded. I'm on my own. I'm paying to park. I bring my camera but I take no pictures. I move along quickly but not entirely by choice. The blackflies are swarming me and land directly on my eyeballs at every opportunity. I dig for a headnet sacrificing fashion for comfort. I find a little bit of peace up on Zion and I am thankful, in that moment, to be alive.
